Cambodia Trip I was given an opportunity to go to Cambodia with Moriah Company. And I really thank God that I'm able to go with them. It was a learning experience. It was a lifetime experience that I can experience in life. I see more in the developing country and I could feel my heart getting bigger for the people. I was inspired by the people who went them wanting to impact the Cambodians. It wasn't easy. I was blessed and deeply moved by some of the amazing people. During the trip, I got the urge to blog, I got the urge to share whatever I saw and learnt in there. People from other country going there to change life. They sacrifice their good life in their own country to come to a poor country such as Cambodia to start a business and to provide a better life for the Cambodians. Some of them starts by impacting children, the next generation. It was then, I realized I'm so fortunate and blessed by what I have. The problems they were facing the shortage of food. They deal with problem such as "Am I able to live tomorrow, no food left." Our problem is, "Am I able to live without my phone?" We as Singaporeans are so fortunate. We shouldn't complained so much. "Why must I study?" People and children wanting to study so much, want a proper education in Cambodia. Some of us don't see education as important but in Cambodia, education is a thing they really need it and they are lacking of it. Child slaves, human trafficking, child prostitutes, child begging are everywhere in Cambodia. They are destroying their next generation. I cannot forget the boy who walked over to my window where our van was on a dangerous roadside, begging me for money. His eyes was so miserable and helpless. I wanted to help but I was stop because if he always do this, his parents will keeping making use of him doing the same thing- begging for people. These poor children don't deserve a life like this. Sigh. I wanted to weep for Cambodia. I feel so sad for them. I went to a orphanage who was founded by a foreigner name Norman. He was called the grandfather of Cambodia. We visited the children, bought gifts and accompanied them. They were so loving, all of them. You can imagine how much love Norman gives to them. I couldn't forget the scene when one of the child ran towards Norman and Norman immediately hug him like a precious child. Jesus & the little children. My heart was so full of love. Before I leave the orphanage, I hugged Norman really tightly. I told myself and him I'll come back again. What are you dreams? Does opportunity always come to you to allow you to fulfill your dream? We interviewed a woman who was being sold to Taiwan to become a prostitute. She was lucky to meet a saviour who brought her back to Cambodia. She was given the opportunity to work in sewing factory/industry open by a USA lady called Ruth Elliot. She hired ex-prostitutes to work for her. Her main purpose was to give them a new job offer to let them live a better life. The woman we interviewed said she got a dream, she want open a shop selling her own sewing products and t-shirts. She got only one opportunity to do it. There was a young teenager who was very poor back then. We interviewed, he was given a chance to work young as a beginner chef in a restaurant opened by a man called Frank who came from Australia(I think). He said he want to open his own restaurant. He was given one chance to do it. How many chances we had, I bet we got more chances than them to fulfill our dreams in Singapore. But we often take it for granted and we didn't put in all our best. We must learnt to grab hold every opportunity that come and to appreciate it. It didn't come easy or coincidently. The Cambodians are working hard for their dreams because they are given the chance to start afresh and they can walk of their past. This might be the only opportunity I have to get to my dreams, I must do it well. We must always have this mindset. Do not let the past be something that stop us for achieving our dreams. I shall stop, I am so tired and sleepy now. Stay tune. Thursday, September 1, 2011
